Project Description

A geofenced mobile survey platform currently in development for Big Red Rooster Flow to run and track multi-site imaging projects from the field.

Survey App overview

Problem

Multi-site imaging projects span dozens of locations, each with its own survey workflows and appointment dependencies, and field teams often work in areas with patchy connectivity. That makes accurate, on-location data capture hard to control and slow to review.

  • Location accuracy: no reliable way to confirm surveys were completed at the correct site.
  • Connectivity gaps: field teams lose data when working in offline or low-signal environments.
  • Slow turnaround: delayed, batched submissions push back reviews and decisions.

Solution

We are building a cross-platform mobile app with geofencing, offline-first storage, and instant submission — paired with a web portal for survey configuration and review.

  • Geofencing technology for location-verified, precision data collection and management.
  • On-device storage that keeps survey data safe until submission, even fully offline.
  • Instant data submission with editable, project-adaptable survey forms for timely review and decision-making.

Design Process

The brief arrived as a technical problem, so we spent the first conversations turning geofencing and offline sync back into a question about people standing in a store with a phone and a schedule. We mapped a surveyor's day across multiple sites, where appointments stack up, signal drops without warning, and a lost form means driving back. That gave us the rule the whole design runs on: nothing the surveyor does should ever depend on a connection, and nothing should silently fail. We designed the offline state first instead of last, so saved, queued and submitted are three visibly different things a person can check at a glance. Forms had to adapt per project without becoming a settings maze, so we built a configuration model in the web portal that produces short, ordered questions in the app rather than long ones. We are testing the capture flow with real site conditions in mind, one-handed, outdoors, sometimes in a hurry, because a survey that is easier to postpone than to complete will get postponed. The system is being built as one component set across the app and the portal, so a form configured on a laptop and answered on a phone stay recognisably the same thing.

The Result

The app is taking shape as a secure, offline-capable survey solution that brings geofenced precision and real-time insight to multi-site imaging projects. Currently in active development for iOS and Android.
